Importance of Team Building

A couple of weeks ago, the Web-Translations team took a step back from project work and took a day for ourselves, a day to focus on team building.

And no, before you think it, we didn’t spend the day performing trust falls and listening to TED talks. Instead we walked, talked and even did a spot of pottery painting. It may perhaps seem like a casual jolly, but it was a day in which a group of remote workers were able to meet one another for the first time.

A day in which we could marvel at each other’s real height and a day in which we could laugh at our poor pottery painting abilities. In other words, it was a day where relationships could be strengthened, and team camaraderie could be nurtured.

Why is team building important?

As an article in Forbes magazine noted, ‘the most successful, memorable team-building events are ones that don’t feel like a day at the office’. And our experience can corroborate that.

The fast-paced nature of the working world means that we are easily distracted by the hustle and bustle. We can often skip the usual morning pleasantries and delve straight into the day’s to do list. Working from home, this blinkered focus can sometimes be exacerbated with no tea-room catch-ups to fill the quiet moments and office pets to ease you through the stressful ones.

Taking a day for yourself however changes that. It gives you an opportunity to focus upon the foundations of your company and give it a bit of TLC. Below we’ve collated a few of the benefits of team building.

If you’re a company that wants to show your employees how valued they are, then we suggest you take a day for yourselves too! After all, we all need it and all deserve it.
